This initiative seeks to eliminate the risk of trees falling on power lines and poles colliding, by burying 6,800 meters of medium-voltage power lines.

Paillaco, Chile.- To improve the quality and continuity of the supply, Saesa began the burial of the rural medium voltage line in the Pichirropulli sector in the Paillaco district.

The initiative seeks to eliminate the risk of trees falling on power lines and poles colliding in the vicinity of the Pichirropulli Primary Substation, which delivers power to more than 8,000 customers in the communes of Paillaco and Futrono, by burying 6,800 meters of network.

“This plan seeks to innovate in the development of underground networks, as a safer and more reliable network alternative, which allows us to improve the continuity of supply for families, enter into a new standard and promote solutions to improve the quality of life of our neighbors”, explained the head of Saesa Customer Service in Los Ríos, Pablo Negrón.

The executive added that “this also gives greater flexibility to the electrical network of the communes of Paillaco and Futrono, and will reduce response times in the event of a power outage. The idea is to evaluate in the future and be able to replicate this initiative in other sectors”.

Grupo Saesa is promoting four projects of this type in rural sectors: in addition to Pichirropulli, one has already been executed in the town of Mulchén and others will be started in Puerto Octay and Choshuenco. In total, it is expected to bury about 36 kilometers of cable in rural areas.

The works are being carried out through the construction method of plow that allows to bury between 0.8 and 1.2 kilometers per day, allowing to speed up its start-up. In addition, it adapts to ground conditions, as it has a high load capacity for conductors and drag, and offers environmentally friendly cable laying.

An underground line also offers other benefits such as the modernization of the electrical system, an improvement in the visual aspect and pollution, but mainly it provides a better quality of service and continuity of supply to the inhabitants of the area.
