Walmart cuts forecast of temporary hires for the end of the year

Admin

Walmart, the largest retailer in the United States announced on Wednesday (21) that it intends to hire 40,000 workers in seasonal roles for the holiday period at the end of the year. Last year, at this same time, the forecast was to hire 150,000 employees, most of them permanent.

Although the 2021 forecast was inflated by the needs created to cover absences due to covid-19, this year’s forecast is being attributed to signs of a slowdown in the American economy, in a context of high inflation.

The chain has announced that it intends to employ fulfillment workers in stores and for delivery services, as full-time permanent truck drivers. Call centers will also be reinforced.

Until the holidays arrive, the retailer will offer overtime to current employees.
