For Falabella Retail, the expansion, which was contemplated from the beginning of the project, will provide enough space to triple the capacity of e-commerce in the coming years.
Santiago de Chile.- Falabella Retail’s Omnichannel Distribution Center in San Bernardo -an American milestone for its installed capacity and technological sophistication- completed a new stage: it expanded the infrastructure of its warehouse from 40,000 m2 to 60,000 m2, as contemplated at the beginning of the project that was inaugurated at the end of 2018.
The corporate manager of Falabella Retail’s Supply Chain, Juan Cristóbal López, explained that “this expansion has allowed us to increase the installed capacity of the Distribution Center by 50%, leaving enough space to triple the capacity of e-commerce in the coming years . This milestone is part of the schedule that we set for ourselves from the beginning of this project within the framework of our flexible and scalable management. This is how we seek to respond to customer needs, multiplying the capacity to process orders and increasingly reducing response times.”
The new infrastructure has the capacity to store 9 million units. The main investment in technology was the expansion of the Automated Warehouse, adding 132 “Shuttle” robots to the operation to the 264 already existing. This increase in capacity provides greater automation and speed in the preparation of orders for our customers and stores which, added to the 6 kilometers of conveyor belts and 3 existing box sorters, facilitate and make our collaborators’ tasks easier and more efficient.
Among the innovations, automatic packaging machines and environmentally friendly packaging were installed. These devices automate the process, since they measure the volume of each order; they make a package according to its size; They seal it and put their respective label.
In addition to the main warehouse, a building annexed to the Distribution Center was built, specializing in perfumery storage. It will be operational in the coming months and will allow larger quantities to be stored and customers to be reached faster.
The Distribution Center also stands out for its LEED Gold certification awarded by the US Green Building Council, an international non-profit organization that promotes sustainable design and construction practices. Both its construction and operation have high standards of sustainability and mitigation of impact on the environment in line with the company’s +Green strategy.
