Among the favorites to win the 2022 Catalan Junior Sailing Championship are sailors such as: Alex Canalda, Javier Gómez. Joan Roura, Jordi Sans or Tom Rondeau.
(23-6-2022). The 53rd edition of the Junior Sailing Skate Championship of Catalonia 2022 will start tomorrow, June 24, under the organization of the Club Marítim Cubelles. With 21 registered so far, this call is outlined a priori, as the edition with the least participation of the last four.
The junior sailing skate is of generational relief. This is confirmed by the number of entries that, so far, has been communicated by the organization of the 2022 Championship of Catalonia of this class that falls on the Club Marítim Cubelles. At the close of this information, 21 sailors from seven clubs are registered.
The entities that provide the largest number of participants are the Club Marítim Cubelles and the Club Nàutic Sitges, with five respectively, followed by the Club Marítim Altafulla, with four.
The 21 registered so far in this year’s edition represent ten fewer sailors than those who took part in last year’s edition. In that edition, of the 31 sailors, 14 of them were over 15 years old, while the remaining 17 were under 15 years old.
JUNIORS WHO NO LONGER GO IN JUNIOR
Of the 14 over 15 years old (who ran under the ‘sots18’ category) in last year’s edition of the Junior Championship of Catalonia, some of them have already abandoned this type of boat for reasons of age or other causes. These would include, for example, Mar Vilardell, from Club Nàutic Sitges; David Masana, from the Club de Mar Sitges; Carla Ferrer, Pol Lobo, Adrià Rafecas and Carolina Soler, from the Club Marítim El Prat; Arnau Fransi, from the Club Patí Vela Barcelona; or Pau Delclós, from the Club Nàutic Premià de Mar.
Among those registered so far in this year’s edition, only nine skippers are over 15 years old and three of these will run under the Open modality, since they are over 25 years old. Those under fifteen are in the majority (12) but they are five less than the 17 who attended last year’s edition.
For this 2022 edition there are some names that, based on the results achieved in this year’s trophies (Catalan Cup and Copes d’Or de Sitges) could be outlined as candidates for victory.
Among these I would highlight the skater from the Club Marítim Cubelles, Javier Gómez who, in addition to ‘playing at home’, has been the winner of the Copes d’Or 2022 and was runner-up in the Catalan Cup this year.
In any case, Gómez will have to pay close attention to what other skippers do, such as Jordi Sans, from the Sitges Nàutic Club and winner of this year’s Catalan Cup, as well as Alex Canalda, also from the Sitges Nàutic Club, and runner-up in the Copes d’Or.
And to these names should be added that of the ‘veteran’ Joan Roura, from the Club de Mar Sitges, who took third overall place in last year’s edition. And another name to consider will be that of the young Tom Rondeau, from the Club Mar i Vent de Canet, a sailor who is showing better ways every time and was fourth in this year’s Catalan Cup.
But, as in all regattas, everything remains to be done and, therefore, everything is possible. And there is always the possibility that new names may appear.
