In this case, the project contemplates the transfer of power from the Chicureo electrical substation to the northern area of Colina, thanks to the construction of a new feeder that will supply the satellite center. In this way, by dividing electrical consumption into small load blocks, the levels of affectation are significantly reduced in the event of a fault, quickly supporting sectors affected by a fault, allowing the largest volume of customers to be maintained with energy.
Santiago de Chile.- With the aim of carrying out initiatives that seek the continuous improvement of its processes and facilities, Enel Distribución presented and put into operation the first stage of the Don Rafael Satellite Center in the Colina district; the second of its kind in the country that the company implements. These are facilities that have state-of-the-art technology that will allow the area’s network to be strengthened and made more flexible, allowing it to operate with greater flexibility in the event of eventual contingencies.
The inauguration was attended by Gonzalo Méndez, Seremi de Energía; Isabel Valenzuela, mayor of the Municipality of Colina; and Ramón Castañeda, general manager of Enel Distribución Chile, as well as executives from the company Sacyr.
“In November of last year, we inaugurated the Centennial Satellite Center, located in the district of Pudahuel. From this step, we became the first electricity distribution company in Chile to have this type of technology. Today we continue to move in that direction and we reinforce that commitment thanks to the start-up of a second team, which allows us to optimize our quality standards and continuity of supply for our customers”, assured Ramón Castañeda.

With this installation it is possible to quickly support sectors affected by a failure, allowing to maintain the largest volume of customers with energy.
In this case, the project contemplates the transfer of power from the Chicureo electrical substation to the northern area of Colina, thanks to the construction of a new feeder that will supply the satellite center. From that point, the feeder is divided into 3 secondary feeders which in turn will be interconnected with existing feeders in the sector.
In this way, in the event of an eventual contingency in one of the main feeders, the other will be able to take the associated load through quick maneuvers, using remote equipment owned by the satellite center. From there it is possible to support, in the first stage of the project, around 3,500 clients in the commune, thus granting greater operational flexibility and larger blocks of power available to meet demand.
The use of satellite centers allows customers to be affected in the event of eventual system downtimes, since it enables rapid load transfers between different feeders and the execution of remotely controlled maneuvers from the company’s Control Center, reducing affectation and recovery of supply.
