With a capacity of 293 MW, the solar park will contribute clean and renewable energy to the national electricity system, and could become one of the largest solar parks in Chile.

Atacama, Chile.- The Environmental Assessment Commission approved the environmental permit for the Atacama Desert solar park.

The project is located in the town of Los Loros, commune of Tierra Amarilla, and through photovoltaic technology, Pacific Hydro Chile plans to generate solar energy equivalent to about 310,000 homes per year.

Renzo Valentino, CEO of Pacific Hydro Chile pointed out that “this resolution allows us to continue consolidating our strategy in Chile. We chose the Atacama Region where the solar resource is exceptional. This also allows us, as a company that stands out for the generation of clean energy, to geographically diversify our assets and explore new complementary technologies”.

Valentino added that “diversity inspires us and our purpose is to grow, diversify and innovate, respecting communities and the environment. This 2022, Pacific Hydro celebrates 20 years of presence in Chile and we are proud to contribute to decarbonizing the country’s energy matrix through initiatives like this one”.

The Atacama Desert will have an installed capacity of 293 MW, will generate 780 GWh/year and contemplates a construction cost of US$300 million, which will last approximately 18 months.

According to the company’s projections, it could become one of the largest solar parks in Chile. In environmental matters, it is estimated that it contributes to offsetting more than 355 thousand tons of CO2 annually.
