(5-4-2022). Decathlon Intl recorded last 2021 the best year in its history. The French chain turned 13,800 million euros around the world, 21% more than in the previous year. Its benefits reached 913 million, 21% more than in 2020.

Decathlon Intl has come out stronger after the Covid-19 pandemic suffered in 2020. The chain of French origin registered the best turnover figure in its history in 2021 after reaching 13,800 million euros, a figure 21% higher than that of 2020 and, likewise, 11% higher than that of the year before the pandemic (2019) when it obtained what had been its record turnover until then with 12,400 million euros.

Of the 13,800 million euros invoiced, 21% (2,898 million euros) came from sales through the internet. It should be noted that in 2019, the incidence of its online sales on the overall sales was barely 8%.

Decathlon is currently present in 70 countries with a total of 1,747 stores and employs a total of 105,000 employees.

France continued to be the main market for the chain in 2021 where it registered 25% of its worldwide turnover. There it achieved a turnover of 4.2 billion euros, which represented an increase of around 18% compared to the previous year. In France, Decathlon has 324 establishments.

The profits of Decathlon Intl also registered a strong increase during the past 2021. The 913 million registered represented an increase of 66% in relation to the 550 million profits obtained in 2020.

As in the case of invoicing, Decathlon Intl’s profit figure also registered historical maximums, since these even exceeded those registered in 2017 when they amounted to 610 million euros.

The network recently found itself at the center of a controversy because, like Auchan and Leroy Merlin, it had continued to operate in Russia despite calls by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for them to leave the country and stop being “sponsors of the Soviet war machine.

Decathlon finally announced at the end of March the suspension of its activity in Russia, where it has 60 stores and employs 2,500 people, alleging “supply problems” in the context of international sanctions against the country chaired by Vladimir Putin.
