If you’re going to shut down a computer because you won’t be using it anymore, you probably already know the most common methods. Normally we all do the same thing, which is press the power button, or use the Home button, right? but do you dare to mention other ways to turn off a computer with Windows 11 system? Let’s see
The first thing we can say in this regard is that there are many ways that Microsoft has thought of allowing us to turn off PCs with this operating system, and all the basic ones are maintained when upgrading to Windows 11. With this in mind, it is enough to review some so that, if one does not work for you, you can execute the others.
The off button, the classic solution
Nobody can be surprised that there are many people who decide to turn off Windows 11 with the physical button. It may be the most direct method and doing so will put your PC to sleep or start the shutdown process. In addition, you can configure this behavior from the Control Panel to customize it, if you want.
Keep in mind, however, that if the computer stops responding completely, it can be forced to shut down. You do have to hold down the power button for 5-10 seconds, but only in an emergency. The thing is forcing a shutdown carries the risk of losing some recent datawhich were not saved.
What other ways to shut down Windows 11 do we have?
From the Power button in Start
In many other situations, you proceed to press the Power button in the Start menu, on the left below. You have to click Start on the Taskbar and, in that menu, click the Power icon. Various functions will appear, but the one that interests us is the Turn offso click on it.
Right-click on the Start button
More direct is if you click with the right button on Home. Select Shut down or sign out, and then Shut down.
With the combination Alt + F4
With the Alt + F4 combination you can select the Shutdown option in the drop-down menu, and then click OK.
You should know that this trick works if all windows are closed, or minimized, and you are viewing the desktop. Then you can initiate an immediate shutdown by pressing Alt + F4via the Shut Down Windows window.
From the command line
In PowerShell or Command Prompt, you have the possibility to write a code with the same objective.
You have to run Command Prompt from Start and type shutdown /s on a blank line and then press Enter. A popup will appear telling you that Windows is about to close. About a minute will pass, and then the operating system will shut down.
With Ctrl+Alt+Delete or the login screen
If all the previous operations do not convince you, there are still two more alternatives to consider.
The first has to do with press the key combination Ctrl+Alt+Delete on the keyboard and, from the full screen black menu, clicking Power at the bottom right corner of the screen, and Power off.
The second goes through launch task managerand click on the Power icon to turn off the computer.
If you wish, for the avoidance of doubt, you can play a sound when Windows shuts down.
